Wheels & Tires

After finishing the underneath, the next logical step seemed to be to finish it off with a nice set of wheels & tires. Summit Racing had a killer deal on 4 of their wheels, so I snatched it up. 17"x 8"x 5 x 4.75 up front & 17"x 9"x 5 x 4.75 in the rear. A little wider in the rear to give it that nice muscle look. The tires were a Falken Ziex high performance tire. 245/45-17 up front & 275/40-17 in the rear. It looks and drives awesome with these things.

Brake Pads, Drum Brakes

After doing the front end, the brakes needed some improvement. Same rotors and caliper up front, but new high performance brake pads. Out back I opted the keep the drum brake setup but add everything new instead of switching to disc. Saves a whole bunch of cash and hopefully does the trick with 400hp up front in the future. We'll see...

Alignment

Apparently after you rip the whole front end of a car apart and try to put it back together on an old car it's impossible to get the alignment right. So that's what we needed next...$224.28 later.

Por-15

Por-15 is supposed to be a rust-proof, virtually indestructible paint that sticks to most anything. After ripping apart the entire underneath to put on the new suspension kit, somehow I found myself going farther and farther while I had things tore apart. So after taking every piece of the front end apart, and cleaned them, it was time for a good paint job underneath. The Por-15 is horrible to work with. If you get it on your skin, good luck getting it off for a couple weeks. It's expensive but did the trick great. The underneath looks brand new after spraying all the new parts and the underside with it.

Shocks

You can't re-do the suspension without adding some new shocks. We're not going crazy here but the Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks should add much better handling than the stock ride but won't break the budget on this weekend racer. Picked up a set of 4 from Checker for a really good price.

We're going to start from the ground up, literally. You never see what's under you while driving in a car but we're creating modern pro-street handling, not just muscle. First Purchase

The interior is actually in really good condition for a 33 year old car. And yes, everything is still original. This car was literally driven to the grocery store and church every week and that's all. So the very first item of business is just to touch up and she'll seriously look brand new again. A very high quality interior paint for vinyl, plastics and pretty much anything else will do the trick.

Meet Blanche. August 20, 2009

I was driving down the Alpine Highway from the freeway toward Highland on August 19th when out of nowhere the bright orange came out of nowhere in a weed filled lot on the side of the street. I said to myself, "that's not a '69, but she's still pretty". I flipped a u and had to get the specs. A day later I took her home after spending every penny I've been saving in the "camaro fund" since Liza and I got married, all $3600.
We found out that it was a two owner car, the first was Blanche, who bought the car brand new on 1/11/77 in Boise, ID and owned it for 30 years before selling it to the guy that I bought it from. He purchased the car from Blanche as an investment and sold it to me two years later.
